Beliefs formed in early childhood are often based on limited data, but can impact a person’s circumstances throughout life. Beliefs formed in childhood while the child watches “Life TV” rarely take into account the whole picture and when a child feels a threat to their security, they create beliefs and myths to protect themselves from pain.
These beliefs formed in childhood will become behaviors and result in patterns: patterns in relationships, circumstances, and choices all designed to protect the “child within” who seeks first and foremost to feel safe.
This “child” can be the “bus driver” who decides where to drive the “life bus,” and determines at a sublimated level who to pick up, who to let off, and has a powerful, but silent voice in what “stops” will be made and how the Experiential Self will interact with the other “passengers.”
These patterns reveal clues as to the internalized belief systems all designed around the idea of safety and security, even if they are limiting and cause long-term pain and a lack of growth for the Experiential Self.

Patterns in a person's life are said to be a message from the unconscious mind, an externalization of a belief.
During sound therapy, the body is put to sleep using various traditional instrumentation, played improvisationally, but the mind remains alert, but inactive and in a mode of attentive "watching.” When the body is relaxed and “asleep,” the pineal gland secretes dimethyltriptamine (DMT) and the person is presented with pictures from the unconscious mind that offer clues to the deeply rooted belief and resultant patterns.
I never know what I will play and feel in a way that I receive cues in this trance-like condition from the person who is receiving the therapy, as if I am the orchestra, playing sheet music directed by the conductor, the person in this semi-sleep state, in some silent communication I respect, but don't fully understand.
Like the amalgamation or kaleidoscope of images in a dream, my intention is, as always, that the mind will present the person with images that will give insights and that in this relaxed mode, will allow them to gain understanding to the nature and meaning of the pattern and when they "awaken," they will begin to see, over the days and weeks that follow, changes that signal that with the light of awareness shined upon the pattern's root cause, a held belief, something will shift and the pattern will be broken and that they will have more peace and contentment, as well as see some change in the pattern.
I consider myself merely a facilitator of these personal journeys people take during sound therapy, whether it be to heal a condition of the body or the soul.

RE-BIRTH, RE-VISION, VISION, & AWARENESS: MOIRA'S JOURNEY
This past week, I concluded a four-week journey with Moira, a former customer of Borrowed Earth Cafe who has followed Kathy and me into the world of traditional sound therapy. Over the last four-weeks, Moira completed an intense series of sessions with a goal of gaining insights from her subconscious into her life and to create a place of awareness from which to operate.
WEEK ONE: RE-BIRTH
The first week, I gently wrapped Moira in a bed sheet, a technique I had learned from a wonderfully gifted healer, L'Oreal Mager-Pinder. My intention was to create a a safe "womb" for her. With her eyes covered with an eye pillow and some gentle aromatherapy, I played a variety of instruments, guided by the notion that Moira would silently communicate which instruments to play from my collection of rattles, drums, singing bowls, tuning forks, and wind chimes, a suggestion made early on in my practice from Kathy. Our intention was that she would go back to the womb to experience a re-birth. Moira shared later she felt very safe and had deep insights into her early childhood, gained clarity from forgotten memories, and observed how her life had been shaped from these elements while in her trance-like state. After, we created some "homework," as all my own work in any good therapy had not only included the "lightning strike" of the session itself, but my own self work had taught me that the sessions were the place of understanding, but for understanding to create positive change and take root, "homework" was critical.
WEEK TWO: RE-VISION
The second week, wrapped once again in this safe sheet womb, Moira imagined herself as both the loving mother and at once, the baby inside and focused on sending deep love and tenderness to herself and also feeling she was receiving these same feelings. This session was remarkable and I was so surprised at the music I was inspired to play; much different than the time before and I felt keenly that somehow, Moira was silently communicating with me and that I was an orchestra, at the ready, not sure what would happen next. After, we created some more "homework" based on her experience.
WEEK THREE: VISION
The third week, continuing on the trajectory and insights from her sessions and homework, my intuition was to not use the sheet womb and instead, simply cover Moira with a blanket (as people's body temperature drops dramatically as they enter this dream state brought on by the sounds, which induce a release of DMT from the pineal gland, like sleep, but in these trance states, they hover between awake and asleep and are allowed to see their dreams, which are "uploads" from their conscious minds which illuminate and provide clarity and insight). I had an intuition to conduct the session with Moira's feet in a heated foot bath of Epsom salts with intention of "drawing out" any self-limiting beliefs and any associated toxins. Moira's intention was to create a positive vision for herself and her future based on the insights she'd gained from Re-Birth and Re-Vision. Once again, Moira and I created "homework" to strengthen insights from her vision experience.
WEEK FOUR: AWARENESS
The fourth session, once again wrapped in the safe sheet womb, we focused on creating a space for Moira to focus on maintaining a state of simple waking awareness from which to operate. At the beginning, I asked if I might shorten the session in the treatment room and ride with her to a nearby park for about 10 minutes and drum for her to allow her to ground the last month's work in a natural setting. She liked that and after her session at the house, we drove to nearby Knoch Knolls park and while Moira sat by the river on some stones, I squatted nearby and drummed my big Native American-inspired drum, a gift from a healer named Dalita. Moira herself designed her homework at the conclusion, as by this time she had a deep understanding into the subtlety of her own nature.
Thank you, Moira, both for your trust and for allowing me to be hold space for you and be your obedient orchestra. It was a privilege to share the time with you and I deeply appreciate your suggestion that I share the "bones" of your work to inspire others with the process.
I am deeply grateful to my own teachers, each of them remarkable healers who have helped shape and inspire my work: Kathy Brodsky Living, Philip L. Kennedy, Dalita Moondragon, John Considine, L'Oreal Mager-Pinder, and Gigi Tejada.

Brooke was a former customer of Borrowed Earth Cafe and contacted me to experience Sound Therapy. It was interesting transitioning from be the person who hands her a plate of food to someone sharing the power of sound with her one on one.

Traditional Sound Therapy - What is it?
A trance-like state of deep relaxation can be experienced in as little as five minutes as the body's water resonates sympathetically with these healing sounds.
Listening to singing bowls close up, feeling the sound waves course through your body or the steady rhythm of my drum and trying to work your to do list or contemplate a list of worries or a five-year plan are impossible.
For all of time, people have sought the solace of nature's orchestra crickets, wind, the sound of moving water, in a stream or the ever-rolling ocean waves' majestic roar, a fierce storm or the gentle rain to restore and relax and re-energize themselves.
All sound is designed to touch the body with it's waves unseen.
A return to a state of quiet wonder and awareness is possible in as little as 10 to 15 minutes that can leave you feeling refreshed, rejuvenated and optimistic.
When the mind is quiet, the body's natural healing mechanism, freed from the mind's machinations, can help give your health and vitality a well-deserved boost.
Take a break from your mind...
Treat yourself to something wonderful!
